VACANCY
Trainee attorney-at-law

Due to a growing practice, Smallegange Lawyers is looking for a (prospective) trainee attorney-at-law with an interest in the international shipping and transport practice.

Smallegange Lawyers is a Rotterdam law firm with an established name in the transport sector (the ‘wet practice’) and the international commercial litigation practice.

The Smallegange team of lawyers is young and dynamic. The three partners are between 40 and 45 years old. Smallegange’s practice has a strong international character. We not only have a strong position in the Dutch (insurance) market, but also serve many foreign clients, including foreign P&I insurers, large shipping companies and international trading companies. Part of our work also comes from our network of foreign correspondents.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in specializing in the practice of our firm. Knowledge of transport law (Book 8 BW) is not required, but a solid foundation in civil law (Books 3, 6 and 7 BW) is expected. A good command of English is also required.

The legal profession is a profession that can best be learned by gaining practical experience. A starting lawyer at Smallegange Lawyers is almost immediately involved in the handling of current cases and is increasingly given independent responsibility. During the first three years, a trainee attorney-at-law is supervised by his or her principal, one of the partners of the firm.

When hiring a trainee attorney-at-law, we look at the long term. After completing the internship, Smallegange Lawyers offers a job as a lawyer-employee if the candidate proves to be suitable for the legal profession and for the practice of the office.
